The Four Legends

What a fun adventure! The Four Legends was a pleasant surprise, full of action and adventure, mystery, and sci-fi fun. Dystopian/sci-fi worlds with teenage heroes and heroines are all the rage thanks to Divergent, The Hunger Games, etc. but this book brought more to the table than just the same old tropes and ideas. Bred on a starship and destined to save humankind, teens are forced to become the next Legends where their skills, experiences, relationships, and even their very lives will be put to the test.

What sets this book apart? For one - the writing was on par with the genre, the descriptions plentiful, and the storyline gripping. I couldn't read fast enough once the adventure started and my anxiety grew with the rising tension. I loved the diversity of the characters and applaud the author for writing characters that have flaws as well as strengths. Woven through the story are questions of morality, democracy, the human condition, and the struggle all teens face when deciding to follow the status quo or seek a new path.
